Mold Cleaning: What Our Clients Should Know
At Green Clean Innovations, our clients knowing about mold cleaning is a priority. We are committed to providing safe and responsible cleaning services. One question we are often asked is whether mold cleaning is included in a standard house cleaning. The short answer is no — mold cleaning is considered a specialized add-on service.
Understanding why mold treatment is handled differently helps ensure the issue is addressed safely and appropriately.
Why Mold Is Not Included in Standard Cleaning
Routine house cleaning focuses on maintaining a healthy home by removing dust, dirt, and everyday buildup. Mold, however, presents additional health, safety, and liability concerns that require specialized handling.
Health and Safety Considerations
Mold exposure can cause allergic reactions, respiratory irritation, and other health concerns. When mold is disturbed during cleaning, microscopic spores can become airborne and spread throughout the home.
Because of this, cleaning mold requires protective equipment and specific procedures that are not part of routine housekeeping.
Specialized Materials and Equipment
Standard cleaning tools and products are designed for general household cleaning. Mold treatment often requires additional materials such as:
Protective equipment (masks, gloves, and eye protection)
Mold-specific cleaning solutions
HEPA filtration equipment to capture airborne spores
Additional sanitation procedures
These additional steps require more preparation, time, and care than a standard cleaning task.
Preventing Cross-Contamination
Improper mold cleaning can unintentionally spread spores to other areas of the home. Professional cleaners must take extra precautions to reduce the risk of cross-contamination, which is another reason mold cleaning is treated as a specialized service.
When Mold Cleaning May Be Offered as an Add-On
Small, minor occurrences of surface mold in certain areas of the home are typically addressed as part of our cleaning services.
Examples may include:
• Light surface mold on bathroom grout or caulking
• Minor mold spots around sinks or windows
• Small surface spots in kitchens or laundry areas
These types of small, routine occurrences are generally manageable during normal cleaning procedures. However, when mold extends beyond minor surface spotting—such as larger areas, heavier buildup, or situations requiring additional time, materials, or protective measures—it may fall outside the scope of standard cleaning.
In these cases, mold cleaning may be offered as an add-on service, which allows us to allocate the proper time, equipment, and safety precautions needed to address it appropriately.
When Mold Requires Professional Remediation
In some situations, mold should be handled by a licensed mold remediation or restoration professional, rather than a standard cleaning service.
This is recommended when:
Mold covers more than 10 square feet
Mold is caused by significant water damage or flooding
Mold is present in HVAC systems or ductwork
Mold may be hidden behind walls, ceilings, or under flooring
These situations often require specialized containment systems, structural inspection, and moisture control to properly resolve the issue.
Our Commitment to Safe Cleaning
At Green Clean Innovations, our priority is the health and safety of our clients and cleaning team. When mold is present, we assess the situation and recommend the safest approach — whether that means a specialized add-on cleaning service or referring you to a professional remediation provider.
If you have questions about mold in your home or are unsure how to address it, our team is happy to help guide you toward the best solution.
Mold Cleaning Policy
At Green Clean Innovations, we take health and safety seriously. Mold can pose potential health risks.
Service Limitations
Our team provides surface-level mold cleaning for small areas only. We do not perform full mold remediation or structural mold removal.
If mold coverage appears to exceed 10 square feet, is caused by significant water damage, or is suspected to be located behind walls, ceilings, flooring, or within HVAC systems, we may recommend contacting a licensed mold remediation professional.
Assessment at Time of Service
Because mold conditions vary widely, the severity and scope of mold cleaning will be assessed during the cleaning visit. Pricing may increase depending on:
Severity of mold growth
Type of surface affected
Total area requiring treatment
Additional time, materials, and protective equipment required
Pricing Acknowledgement
Mold cleaning starts at $50 but may increase based on the factors above. Clients should be aware that charges for mold cleaning may range between $150 and $500 depending on severity and coverage.
By requesting mold cleaning services, clients acknowledge that final pricing will be determined during the cleaning visit and may be charged up to $500 for this add-on service if conditions require additional treatment.
Moisture and Recurrence
Cleaning mold removes visible growth but does not address underlying moisture issues that may cause mold to return. If moisture or ventilation problems are not resolved, mold may reappear.
Right to Decline Service
For the safety of our staff and clients, Green Clean Innovations reserves the right to decline mold cleaning services if the affected area is deemed unsafe, excessive, or outside the scope of our cleaning services.
